The color digital reports generated from these processes are increasingly becoming a crucial piece of evidence for final delivery.

How, then, can printing professionals effectively meet the digital demands of overseas brands or buyers in practical production? This article primarily introduces current digital inspection methods, delving into their key points, inherent logic, and control measures.

Firstly, it's essential to clarify the prevailing digital color monitoring methodologies. From aspects such as inspection stages, objects, methods, color bars, timing, objectives, and scope, several inspection approaches can be delineated:

Pre-Press and Press Inspections

Pre-press inspection typically refers to the inspection of digital proofs, a pivotal checkpoint before traditional printing commences. The industry's most standardized practice involves using ISO 12647-7 standards to monitor proofing colors. The measurement objects are primarily two or three control strips of color blocks, assessed using built-in or external color measurement instruments in printers and compared against standard data, with results classified as pass or fail. Electrostatic or inkjet digital printing devices also employ similar methodologies.

Press inspection occurs on the printing press, employing automatic or manual color measurement instruments to digitally assess the color bars on the print sheet. Typically, there is only one row of color bars, referencing ISO 12647-2 or specific standards, with the software commonly generating percentage figures.

Simultaneous assessment of digital proofs and actual prints is less common, mostly seen among premium brands like Microsoft, Google, Hasbro, or in advanced certifications such as Fogra PSO certification or BrandQ certification.
